SELF POWERED SUPPLY UNIT
FOR WPROT DEVICES |
|
The OPT type power supply unit fed by CT's
and VT's for WProt devices is useful if no external
auxiliary supply is available. Because it is a member of the device family
WProt it is a small-sized device and possible
to make a clamp joint to a standard W rail. |

|
Main features |
|
- Power supply unit fed by current and voltage transformers
- Possibility to make a clamp joint to a standard W
rail
- Small place requirement to be applied when the place is narrow
- Practically applied all over the electrical plants
- Self powered own operation
- Self powered operation for WProt relays
- Self powered trip energy storage for CB
- Voltage check to get enough stored trip energy
- Independent capacitor banks with separate terminals for WProt
relays and for trip energy

Working principle |
|
Two phase currents of the main CT are connected
through an inductive auxiliary CT to an independent rectifier. An other
rectifier is connected to the line voltage of main VT and after it to a
dc/dc converter. The two separated dc voltage is connected parallel and
two capacitor banks are charged by them, one for dc power supply to an WProt
protective relay, one for its CB trip. The negative point of them are common.
A voltage condition relay is applied to the voltage of capacitor bank of
CB trip to check whether the stored trip energy is enough. If the voltage
is about 1×2 - times more then the enough one, its contact connects the
charged energy to the supplied WProt protective
relay trip contact, and through it the capacitor bank charged energy is
discharged to the CB trip coil.
Enough supply energy and CB trip energy can be get from the current circuits
only if the current is at least as high as 1×In (e.g. on close-in fault).

Design, size |

The OPT type power supply unit is built into
a closed dustproof steel case of type WProt.
A clamp joint may be made to a standard W rail
by the case, the width in the rail is 120 mm. 9 terminals are placed on
the front plate of case, through them the external connections may be made.
The supply unit is equipped with PCB's, set up of IC's.
On the upper part of the front plate of the case, in the middle, the emblem
of WProt is seen. The description of type OPT
is written under it. At left, a green LED for annunciating the own supply,
and a red LED for annunciating the enough output voltage of CB trip energy.
